News and Updates

The whole hall has been completely re-decorated internally, and looks so much better. The porch flooring was replaced, new wall lights were fitted in the hall and skirting boards are now a pristine white!
The toilets were completely refurbished last year, now the next job on the list is to purchase new curtains or blinds for the windows in the hall.

Following the success of last year's quiz night, we held another one at the village hall on 29th September 2018. Richard was our excellent quiz master, helped by his wife and daughter on the scoring, thank you Newell family. The boos and cheers got louder with each quiz round, which is a sure sign of a good evening!

A brand new event in Wylye for 2018, on June 24th we gathered at the village hall, and then walked to Fisherton de la Mere and back along the River Wylye. The sun was shining, sausages were sizzling, Pimm's was cooling, a perfect Sunday afternoon! The children all loved the games in Wylye play park, refreshments halfway in Fisherton and activity sheets to keep them entertained on the walk. Hopefully we'll do it all again next year, we are hoping the sun shines again!

Our Committee have been busy fundraising for the much needed toilet renovations in the hall. Ladies and Gents toilets were both completely ripped out and necessary measures put in place to prevent problems with damp. We are so pleased with the end result, they are a vital asset to the village hall, and hopefully will encourage lots more people to hire the hall for events!

After the success of last year's ploughman's lunch, another was held on April 24th 2018. Delicious food and wine resulted in good ticket sales, raising vital money for the village hall!

This Christmas we decided to bring the carol singing into the warmth of the village hall, and gather around the Christmas Tree with nibbles and mulled wine. It was lovely to see so many people there, and get into the festive spirit whilst raising money for the hall.

The first singing club  was a huge success, we are all looking forward to the next date on 21st February!
Bring along your neighbours and friends, the more the merrier! £4 per person, all proceeds support the hall.

On 16th January 2017 we had a great fund-raising night at the Pub, raising £390 for the village hall.
Thanks to our quiz master Jon Bush and the publicans Andy & Lorraine.
We are planning to have another one in October 2017, so watch this space!

Thanks to everyone who participated in the carol singing around the village on 19th December 2016. We are thrilled that this has been revived, and hopefully we can build on this year's experience to go on to bigger and better things for next Christmas. All suggestions most welcome!
£129 was raised for the Stars Appeal, which was a great result.

Despite the torrential rain, we had a great turn-out at the village fete, and raised £2600 which was split between the Wylye Village Hall, and the Wylye & Fisherton Church.
Thanks to the committee for organising another great summer fete!

The last event for 2015 was the Christmas Fayre was held on Saturday 14th November.

A good crowd enjoyed coffee and mince pies and the stalls did a brisk trade resulting in a profit of over £800 for the hall funds.

It is hoped to arrange more events in the future and anyone interested in helping would be welcome.  Contact any member of the Committee if you want to know more.

Wylye Fete held on 5th September made £2,956 despite poor weather, the Wyvern Hall will benefit from a share of this money.

June 2nd 2015

The Village Hall Committee meeting was followed by the AGM.  All the committee have agreed to stay on for another year on the understanding that efforts are made to involve others who will eventually take over.

There are a number of problems which need addressing, the main one being the hall floor which has been patched in several places and now needs complete renewal; it was agreed that this must be given priority and the work is being put in hand immediately, as will the roof repair.  There are a number of other suggestions in the pipeline including a drop down screen which we hope will give the Hall even greater appeal.

The minutes and accounts are available to view on the attached page

March 21st 2015

The lunchtime Soup Kitchen saw over 40 people enjoy home made soup, bread, cheese and pickles in a very happy, relaxed atmosphere.  The raffle and donations amounted to a sum of £276 which will help with the upkeep of the hall.
Many thanks to all who gave so generously and particularly those who came on the day.

January 28th 2015

We now have an all singing all dancing commercial dishwasher which will do the dishes in 5 minutes!  We are also going to purchase a wall fitted screen so that presentations can be more easily held in the Hall.

A soup Kitchen lunch is planned for 21st March with home-made soup, bread and cheese.  This is a fund raiser for the Hall but also a social gathering and opportunity for everyone to see what our well equipped Village Hall has to offer.  Full details on the events page.

Christmas Fayre November 15th.

About 70 people came to our Christmas Fayre and the stalls offering all sorts of Christmas and other gifts, did a good trade.  Coffee and mince pies were consumed, The Bell had kindly given the mince pies and both raffles were well supported.  The total raised for the Hall maintenance fund was £759.86p.  So well done and thank you everyone who helped and supported this event.

31st October 2014

The Harvest Supper was a very happy evening enjoyed by a full house and raised £871 for the Church window fund

Rodney Carpenter and John Haviland have been co-opted onto the committee, Judy Stillwell has resigned for family reasons but will continue to help when she can.

Richard Collinge has done great work in bringing all our necessary health and safety compliances up to date and putting the necessary checking systems in order again.  Our thanks to him and we shall be sorry to loose him when he is posted away in December.

Rodney and Sylvia Carpenter have sorted out the problem with the de-humidifier, and that, and the faulty radiator are now working again.

We will be buying a new dish washer as the present one is not a commercial model which is needed for a catering kitchen. A larger urn has already been purchased.

1st September 2014

The Fete and Dog Show held on Saturday 30th August was a success and enjoyed by all.  The weather was kind and the Band played whilst the stalls, teas and sideshows all did a good trade, many dogs were paraded and all behaved well.  The day finished with a sausage and mash supper in The Bell.  The final sum is not yet to hand but looks like being in the region of £3,200 so well done everyone.

2nd August 2014

A new committee has now been formed with Lucy Cassels as Secretary, Isabel Wright, Treasurer, Deana Barnett has taken on bookings and Jackie Williams will deal with publicity and the web site.  Ann Haviland will be Chairman for 8 months with Sylvia Carpenter as Vice Chairman.

The committee is planning to build on the success of previous Village Hall functions and hopefully, all the users of the Hall will continue to enjoy the facilities.
